I was 41 with two Ivy League college degrees, an excellent job history and everything was going well. Then, I was laid-off. No severance, no handshake, just a "sorry, but..."
No paycheck to count on anymore.
Discouraged, dismayed, and embarrassed, I had to fight for me. Not exactly a great economy in which to be looking for a new job.
I enrolled in a computer class at NH Community Technical College, then met Fran Bishop of the Rockingham Community Action Program - my job search cheerleader. My resume and experience were excellent, but Fran suggested taking just one more computer course. She got my training, books and mileage all paid for...almost $1,000!
Long story short, one weekend I helped my instructors move the computer department to new headquarters. I met the computer administrator...we started to talk. He said "hey, I know just the job for you!" I couldn't believe my luck, and yes, my new job!
Great people. Great listeners. Good ideas and plans. That's what the programs affiliated with NH WORKS are all about. My life is a sweet story again...certainly not a soap opera anymore.
